AAS, if taken in overphysiological doses, may increase muscle strenght and lean body mass, while they don't seem to have effects on endurance performance and on fat mass. Because of the widespread use of these substances, the focus is on their related side effects. The effects on the reproductive system seem to be quite important and they may induce some changes as far as libido and (temporary) infertility are concerned. Doping, although was born as a medication and not with the purpose of enhancing performance, is a widespread practice in all sports, between amateur and gym-goers. The Italian sports federations were in second place worldwide for positive doping-test, after Russia. This review focuses on the analysis of data collected by Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) in the 2012–2014 period, showing that the most commonly used substances were anabolic androgenic agents, glucocorticoids, diuretics and stimulants. In this study, the yeast microbiota of naturally fermented black olives made from cv. Gemlik, grown in three different districts of the Cukurova region of Turkey, were investigated. Fermentations were conducted for 180 days in three different brines, including NaCl 10% w/v, NaCl 8% w/v and NaCl 8% w/v added with glucose 0.5%. In total, 223 yeasts were isolated and then identified by PCR-RFLP analysis of the 5.8S ITS rRNA region and sequence information for the D1/D2 domains of the 26S rRNA gene.
